The new 22,000-square-foot facility will provide additional indoor practice space for N麻豆原创鈥檚 baseball, softball and golf programs, while also opening up the JSC Fieldhouse for broader campus use. This increase in space will benefit all students, creating more opportunities for recreation and wellness, part of N麻豆原创鈥檚 commitment to transforming the whole student through a healthy and balanced lifestyle. The building will include one of the top collegiate golf training centers in the Northwest and will be the largest facility of its kind in Idaho.

鈥淭his project is about more than athletics,鈥 said Paul Rush, N麻豆原创 Director of Athletics. 鈥淭he Rob Roberts Training Facility will expand our ability to serve student-athletes with excellence while simultaneously creating new opportunities for student life, recreation and wellness. It鈥檚 a transformational space that will elevate the N麻豆原创 experience for everyone.鈥

The facility is named in honor of Rob Roberts, owner of R&M Steel, who generously donated the steel for the project. All are welcome to join us as we celebrate this exciting milestone.

The Northwest Nazarene University (N麻豆原创) Forensics Team recently returned from the National Christian College Forensics Tournament, held at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, bringing home an impressive collection of awards. Every N麻豆原创 student who competed earned recognition, with the team also securing two Team Sweepstakes Awards: 2nd Place in Division II for Speech Events and 3rd Place in Division II for Debate.

Among the standout individual performances, Lily Walsh claimed the title of Novice Persuasive Speaking Champion, placed 2nd in Novice IPDA Debate, 2nd in Impromptu Speaking and finished 8th in debate听speaker rankings. Miya Ingram earned 2nd place in Persuasive Speaking, while Rhianna Soft placed in four of her five events, including 3rd in Prose Interpretation, 4th in Poetry Interpretation, 4th in Homiletics听(preaching) and 6th in Programmed Oral Interpretation. Brooklyn Hallett finished 6th in After Dinner Speaking, reached the quarterfinals in Junior IPDA Debate and was 6th in debate speaker rankings. Additionally, Nathan Edmonds advanced as a semi-finalist in Extemporaneous Speaking.

Reflecting on the tournament, Brooke Adamson, Assistant Professor of Communication & Director of Forensics, highlighted the significance of the competition:

“This tournament is a unique opportunity to compete against national quality teams that represent Christian institutions from across the country. Having the opportunity to speak about and debate Christian topics is a beautiful blend of our faith and forensics. Giving students an opportunity to discuss and evaluate what we should be doing as Christians in our current world with a broader audience is an unmatched preparation for their professional lives. Our students represented us well!”

Forensics team member Miya Ingram also shared her thoughts on the experience:

“As someone who has been competing in forensics for the past eight years in various environments and competitive spaces, I have been truly blessed to compete for the N麻豆原创 team under Coach Adamson and at the National Christian College Forensics Association National Tournament. It is truly a unique experience when you can pray with your coach or teammates between rounds or start a tournament with chapel or prayer. It is a deep blessing to be supported and cared for by your community in this way, and it’s not something I experienced before joining Coach Adamson’s team.”

The N麻豆原创 Forensics Team will be showcasing some of their award-winning performances at the annual Forensics Showcase on March 19, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. in Harter Lecture Hall. The event is open to the public, and snacks will be provided.

Each issue of the , we provide a profile for one N麻豆原创 faculty member, one staff member, one undergraduate student and one graduate student. Meet Zoe D鈥橭razio, our undergraduate student profile for Summer 2023.

MAJOR: Graphic Design

FUTURE PLANS: My future plans are not very strict and I am not set on anything yet. I plan to be a graphic designer and live in the Valley for a few years. I know God has a plan for my life, so I am content not knowing exactly what I will do.

GRAD YEAR: 2024

HOMETOWN: Challis, ID

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU: I own more than 30 plants.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT N麻豆原创: I love all the opportunities N麻豆原创 has to offer. For example, traveling the world with friends, making pancakes in the Art Department with your professors or going to events to create more relationships.

SOMETHING VALUABLE YOU LEARNED AT N麻豆原创: I learned to be more open-minded about who people are and how they live life. We are all trying our best in this life and it looks different for everyone. I learned how to create relationships by being vulnerable with people and letting down my guard.

ADVICE YOU鈥橠 OFFER TO FUTURE STUDENTS: You can choose to live high school all over again by the people you hang out with in college. I did not like my high school experience very much, so I had to step outside my comfort zone and go through conversations I didn鈥檛 like or embrace the seasons in life where I was struggling and emotional because looking at the big picture is all for healing.

WHY YOU CHOSE CHRISTIAN HIGHER EDUCATION: I chose Christian higher education because you are getting academic knowledge and life and spiritual knowledge from your peers and professors. I wanted to grow my relationships spiritually.

HOW DOES N麻豆原创 HELP CREATE HABITS OF HEART, SOUL, MIND AND STRENGTH? N麻豆原创 creates habits of the heart when you sit in a philosophy class with a black-and-white view of life and are forced to think about other religions, choose how you want to live and ask yourself the motivations behind your actions. Habits of the soul are when you are getting ready for bed with your roommate, and right before you go to bed, you pray for each other, so I learned how to pray for people. Habits of mind are when I have so much on my plate, I get overwhelmed, and I cannot think straight鈥攆orcing myself to slow down frequently and focusing on God. Habits of strength are when it is midnight, and I am fighting for my life to stay awake and get an assignment done. I have learned how to be hard-working and get things done on time.
